Metaphor Handout

1. Metaphors commonly compare, are used in headlines to gain attention, are confused with similes, are in a packet that I didn’t read very well

2. Common metaphors are used incorrectly for the majority of time and common metaphors are used without people even truly realizing that they are there

3. Reading this packet was a blast

Editing

I thought editing using the wiki and while being face to face with the writer gave the process a different vibe. I don’t really enjoy editing other people’s work because I don’t think that I am qualified to do it so I never really give too many comments. Having these guide questions on the board made it a little bit easier for me though.

A Visit In Time

I would like to go back into the Revolutionary War Period. It would be awesome to be one of the snare drummers while marching into battle. Alot of what of what I play today on snare drum was developed from what they did back then. It would be scary to have a drum over a weapon but it might be interesting to get shot in mid snare solo… so maybe now that I think about it I would just observe.

Body Image/Otherness

The body image of every character is not only discussed but some of the characters even often talk about other characters’ body image.  Aside from the most obvious green skin color of Elphaba, the shortness of Boq, Fiyero’s tattoos, and Nessarose’s arm situation there is a different body image theme going on throughout the book. Either being an animal or an Animal it doesn’t matter to the general public because they still deprive them of having any rights based on the fact that they look different.  I think that is a more important issue than what the characters think of their bodies.

Did Oz influence Elphaba’s decision to not return with Glinda at the end of the chapter?
